Obtaining your ICF credentials requires you to undergo a minimum of 10 hours of mentor coaching spread over a period of 3 months.
ICF Definition of Mentor Coaching: For the purpose of credentialing, mentor coaching means an applicant being coached on their coaching skills rather than coaching on practice building, life balance, or other topics unrelated to the development of an applicant’s coaching skills. This requirement is intended to help applicants prepare for participation in the ICF assessment of your coaching conversation.
As your Mentor Coach, we will review your coaching conversation with a real client focusing on the process and flow with the goal to hone your skill to coach for awareness. We will analyze your client's response base on your question and then get behind the conversation to help you uncover what you are thinking and then calibrate your intention so that you can fully demonstrate the competencies at the level of credential you are seeking. Through this process, We deepen your learning helping you to become a better observer of yourself on how you served your client i.e. what is happening within you and what actually happened, why it matters and then offer you valuable suggestions on where your growth opportunities are in manner that is supportive and affirmative.
The Mentor Coaching process includes review of your coaching conversation recordings, preparing the feedback for question by question of the coach's conversation and debriefing to identify growth opportunities. The Feedback is the most valuable component in this mentor coaching. It is labor intensive because the recording has to be heard several times and analyzed segment by segment, line by line, question by question according to the flow of the conversation. Importantly, you will receive practical suggestions with sample questions on how best to improve the coaching process.
